It can be fun to give a pet a super long name, especially if the pet has a super long neck, like a giraffe.
The most famous “long name” from a children’s book is this one:
Tikki Tikki Tembo-no Sa Rembo-chari Bari Ruchi-pip Peri Pembo which means (“The Most Wonderful Thing in the Whole Wide World”) is the name of the boy in the 1968 picture book “Tikki Tikki Tembo” by Arlene Mosel. It is set in ancient China and centers around an invented Chinese custom of giving first-born sons long names but giving other children in a family short simpler names.
This story is not to be confused with the 1894 Rudyard Kipling short story, “Rikki Tikki Tavi” which was included in the Jungle Book. Rikki Tikki Tavi, which is the name of a mongoose, also makes a great pet’s name.
Other well known “long names” that make great pet names are the following:
Snufflepagus – the mysterious brown hairy creature from Sesame Street
Michaelangelo
The Great Waldo Pepper
